June 7, New York, CFDA Awards 2011. Best designers, best fashionforward people, best outfits.

If you don’t know already, CFDA Awards are annual awards in a fashion industry, while CFDA itself is a non-profit organisation whose membership list is quite amazing (over 370 american brands). Visit their website for more information 🙂

    Thank you for sharing,

  4. Looks like everyone’s blogging bout this as well! Liya and Chanel Iman’s gowns are gorgeous as ever and Gaga? Perfection (: (new blog!) (old blog, more posts)

  5. oldancestor says:

    Katie Cassidy….

    **overtaken by drunken stupor**

  6. Elizabeth says:

I like the Kirsten Dunst’s Suite, it’s modern and very versatile, Jessica Alba cant’s be worst with that dress so messy and looks like a blanket tangled in her body.

  7. donnidar says:

Loved the variety of styles you chose for this post. Thanks for posting!

  8. The dress on Katie Cassidy is the cutest ever!

  9. How does Gaga walks on those heels???

  10. Eva McCane says:

some of those gowns and outfits are phenomenal. other are ok…in my book anyway. thanks for sharing. love it!

  11. Very understated dresses this year…. Chanel Iman looks breathtaking!

  12. thor27 says:

Most of the outfits were okay some of them though were lousy. Decent blog come visit

  13. Lakia Gordon says:

I liked the first, third, and fourth outfits. I think they were the most wearable for me 🙂

  14. beyondanomie says:

For a formal evening awards show (which is what the CFDA awards are), many of those outfits are dreadful choices (regardless of whether they would look fine in other settings). The ones that got it right for the occasion (though I’m not necessarily a fan of the overall look in a few of these cases): Lucy Liu, Alessandra Ambrosio, Karolina Kurkova, Miranda Kerr, Lady Gaga, Kirsten Dunst, Chanel Iman, Liya Kebede.

Kurkova and Kerr are probably my favourites overall, though both would do better with closed-toe shoes for this event.

Amber Heard, Naomi Watts, Katie Cassidy, and Liv Tyler look great, but look like they’re dressed for a cocktail party instead of an awards show.

    • madeleine says:

I couldn’t agree more. Miranda and Chanel are my favourites overall. But what surprises me is that eg. Ashley Greene was a date of Michael Kors himself and he dressed her so he chosed her outfit for the event and she still doesn’t get it right for this particular event.

(and yes Katie’s dress is probably the cutest there and I would definitely wear it but for a bbq party or something like that 😉 )

      • beyondanomie says:

I didn’t know that about Ashley Greene. I wonder if he really thought that look was appropriate for the event, or whether he was just thinking about what would get some column inches?

Clothes are a wonderful way to express personality, and identity. That’s what I love about them. But they should also represent how your personality interacts with the event, and with other people. Picking an outfit that has nothing to do with the event is the sartorial equivalent of turning up and then standing in a corner refusing to talk to anyone all evening long! 😉

I forgot to congratulate you on getting Freshly Pressed in my earlier post. Consider yourself congratulated, and keep blogging! I’ll try to remember to pop by occasionally; I like what you’re doing here. 🙂

  15. My faves: Kerry Washington, Katie Cassidy, Liv Tyler, and Karolina Kurkova (wish I could have a better shot of her shoes!)

  16. Mai & Pencil Pillow says:

Cassidy is just too skinny, I think. But Lady Gaga looks great.

But you know, my friend also said “Fashion is the healthiest motivation for losing weight.”
    I guess, that’s wrong.

  17. Anna says:

katie was my fave for sure. thanks for another amazing post love. please swing by for all the latest celebrity fashion news as well as see pics of my latest celebrity trend report. xoxo

There are so many wonderful dresses! But I think Chanel Iman is the most fabulous 🙂

  20. Event Culture says:

I just love the what Amber Heard and Chanel Iman are wearing – absolutely beautiful. I don’t think I have ever seen one piece of clothing Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen have worn that I love…they always look like little girls playing dress-up, the LV shoes, however are fabulous!

  21. I’m not sure about these outfits, I think that they are not totally appropriated for the CFDA awards. But I also think that there are a few cute outfits as the one that Katie Cassidy wears or Kerry Washington, great dresses!
    xx p&c

  28. Jack whitsel says:

I like the diversity of styles rather than the standard gown one would see on the red carpet of the Oscars. Some attire definarely stood out compared to others, but I still embrace simplicity.

  29. gaycarboys says:

There are some hits and misses on that. I love GAGA but just can’t be doing with the frock. Jess Alba is looking mighty good can I say?

  35. segmation says:

Nice outfits. I wonder how they came up with this color of hair for the Chloe Sevigny outfit?

  36. @CLO_NYC says:

I love the Chloe’s outfit! I thought she and Linda Fargo were the best dressed – I’m no big fan of the CFDA’s, but at least, and tmw says, there are some truly good clothes – not just well-styled.

As Lady Gaga, I’m totally in the same camp – and why honor fashion icons anyway when there are many more deserving people in fashion? I wrote a piece on this that came out today:

  37. I too love the Chloe’s Outfit! So Fab!!
